The Volkswagen T2a: an introduction

The beloved VW T2a Transporter was built from August 1967 to July 1972.

It uses a Ross Steering Gear with a two-piece tie rod, which, after about 50 years of use, often causes increased steering play due to wear and tear. This not only spoils driving, but is very dangerous with progressive wear and play on the steering.

Previous attempts to restore the backlash by adjusting or replacing the steering worm were insufficient. This prompted us to rebuild all relevant parts, as well as the existing ZF steering gear housing.

DESIGN

Technical Details

In-house production of the steering peg & worm in an ISO-certified automotive factory after material analysis and standardized material testing ensures freedom of play around the middle layer
In-house production of steering shaft (oversized)
After cleaning and glass blasting, each steering gear housing is measured and adapted to the new oversized steering shaft.
New bearings
New oil seals + protective cap from own production line
Assembly and adjustment with friction value measuring device in accordance with the RLF V 8.2
